Summer is a time when you can have a lot of fun with your dog, but it’s also important to take some precautions in order to keep your pet safe. Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes, and never let your dog ride in the bed of a truck. Remember that dogs primarily keep cool by panting, so if you’re going outside, make sure that your dog always has plenty of water to drink. Don’t overdo the outdoor time; dogs love running around, but they should be able to rest somewhere cool when they tire out. Also, watch out for sidewalks; your dog’s paws can easily be burned by the hot asphalt. If you have a swimming pool, make sure that your dog can’t get into it when you aren’t supervising him. Finally, make sure that your dog is getting lots of exercises so that he stays healthy. If you’re concerned about your dog’s health for any reason, consult your Campbell veterinarian.
